A 3-year-old boy was killed, and a woman was transported to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries after a fatal crash on Hwy. 52 caused the roadway to be closed for about four hours.
The accident between a Toyota Camry and a semi occurred in a construction zone. Hwy. 52 was closed between Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 50 in Hampton.
The Minnesota State Patrol had not released the name of the toddler who died in the accident as of press time. He was a passenger in the Camry, driven by Maria De Lose Garcia Galindo, 28, St. Paul, who was transported to Regions.
According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, the northbound Camry crossed the center line and collided head-on with the semi near 250th Street at 10:34 a.m. The 2020 Peterbilt semi was driven by Danilo Vukmanovic, 39, of Florida. He was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The road closure and traffic slowdown caused other collisions in the area. A car and an SUV collided, and the SUV caught fire. Three people were treated at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Cannon Falls Ambulance and Hampton Fire Department were on the scene, along with the Minnesota State Patrol.
