Dakota County launches Property Watch program to combat fraud

Free program monitors recorded documents

Posted

Dakota County property owners have a new tool to monitor property records.
The county’s voluntary Property Watch program allows property owners to provide a name or real estate description to be monitored for any recorded documents.
Signing up for the free service is easy. A user can subscribe by entering a name or a property’s legal description, along with an email address. An email is sent if there is a future real estate document recorded with the matching name or property description. The user must review the email to determine if the document might be fraudulent.
Property Watch can monitor a name, entity or property for real estate activity. Upon signing up, the system will monitor from that day forward.
For more information, visit www.dakotacounty.us and search property watch, call Dakota County Property Records at 651-438-4597, or email records@co.dakota.mn.us.
