Edward “Ed” Henry Savoie, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Woodbury on April 22nd, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Ed was a remarkable individual whose life was defined by his dedication to public service and his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and faith.

Ed’s marriage to his beloved wife, Mary K., was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they traveled across country in their RV, creating cherished memories and strengthening their bond. They ventured further, taking pilgrimages across Europe. They were partners in everything and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 15th.

Throughout his career, Ed served his country as a member of the US Air Force and later as a police officer at the Minneapolis-St Paul airport. He retired in 1998 after 25 years of service at MSP. Ed’s roles as a corrections officer in Lino Lakes, and a counselor for troubled youth for the city of Minneapolis, exemplified his dedication to helping others and making a positive impact in his community.

Even when he wasn’t in public service, he still found ways to help his community. He was a small business owner who owned and ran Savoie Laundry with his brother Rick in Detroit Lakes. He was also a volunteer firefighter.

Ed was a proud member of both the Knights of Columbus and the Secular Franciscan Order. He was a voracious reader and spent the last few years bonding with his grandchildren. Ed was uniquely designed by God. He was an avid storyteller and had a contagious laugh. He was unconditionally loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marie (Marcotte); siblings, Angela, Ulric “Rick” (Joann), Mary (Harry) Schoen, Bernie (Don) Gundy, Muriel (Jim) Heisler, Phil (Jean), and Jerry (Dar).

Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary K.; children, David (Stephanie), Rena (Sean) Wilson, Nicole (Andrew) Duda; grandchildren, Katrena, Joshua, Jacob, Henry, Isabel; and by his brother, Paul (Myrna).
