For the sixth year, the Hastings Police Department is participating in the Pink Patch Project, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Throughout the month of October, the Hastings Police Department will be selling three different patches, pint glasses and color-changing plastic glasses to raise money for breast cancer research.
The Pink Patch Project is a program that law enforcement agencies and firefighters across the country and globe participate in to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Participating agencies design and sell custom pink patches along with other merchandise throughout the month of October.
The Pink Patch Project began in 2013 when the Seal Beach California Police Department began wearing pink patches during October for breast cancer awareness month. The idea spread to other departments throughout California before being introduced the Los Angeles Police Chiefs Association where more agencies began the practice in 2016.
Since then, the project has extended beyond California and even beyond the United States. The Pink Patch Projects boasts nearly 1,000 participating agencies, more than $2 million raised and 1.5 million patches sold.
Last year the Hastings Police Department raised $635 from sales and Minnesota agencies collectively donated more than $29,000.
Pink Patch Project merchandise can be bought in the Hastings City Hall and Hastings Police Department during regular business hours during October. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
