Female athletes, coaches and officials are making history nationwide and Hastings’ own Kacey Plank added her name to that amazing list this weekend by being the first ever female umpire to officiate a baseball game at Veterans Park baseball field. Plank will be a senior at Hastings High School, and she has been an umpire for the Hastings Youth Athletic Association for three previous summers with nothing but excellent comments regarding her performance on the field. This past weekend, she was the home plate umpire for the 14AAA championship game, and she knocked it out of the park. Just a few hours prior, she officiated one of the elimination games as the lone umpire, her first ever game on the top adult baseball field in Hastings making her officially the first female to umpire there, a historic moment for Hastings. Way to pave paths for and inspire others Kacey!
