Willard “Whip” Whipple, age 92, passed away on July 19, 2024 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN, after a brief illness.

Whip was born on June 14, 1932, in Mission, SD. As a young man, Whip served proudly in the United States Army, including his time guarding the U.S. embassy in Japan. He worked many years at 3M in Cottage Grove before retiring in 1994.

Whip is preceded in death by his son, William; granddaughter, April Mancl; great granddaughter, Ava Mancl; brother, Ben Jr.; and his parents, Benjiman and Lilian Whipple.

Whip is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Nell (Siebenaler). Whip and Nell were married at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings on November 15, 1952. They lived in their home on East 5th Street nearly that long.

Along with his wife, Nell, Whip is survived by their seven children: Gail, Keith (Laurie), Rob (Peggy), Joyce, Jeff (Kerrie), Michael, and Wendy Sagissor (Bill); 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sister, Sharon Whipple. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his relatives in Rosebud, South Dakota.

Whip will be missed by his family and the relatives and friends who were fortunate enough to share his 92 year journey.

A Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St., Hastings, MN.A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W., Hastings, MN, with a visitation one hour prior.

Private interment took place at The SEAS Parish Cemetery immediately following church services.
