Shannon Marie Stenzel, age 48 of Hastings, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at United Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. In 2021, Shannon was diagnosed with EGFR lung cancer, a gene mutation that she bravely fought for over three years. Shannon was the light of many lives that she touched in her time on Earth.

Shannon was born on May 18, 1976, the middle of three daughters to Judy and John Becker. Shannon grew up in Hastings and decided to raise her family in Hastings. Shannon attended Winona State University to major in special education. She met the love of her life while attending Winona State University and was married to Chris Stenzel in July of 2001. Together they had one son, Connor. Shannon had a passion for teaching special education and worked at Hastings Middle School for the last 18 years.

Shannon enjoyed chai lattes, game shows, her friends and family, and most of all candy. She was well known for her sweet tooth. She lived life to the fullest each day, always full of joy, love, and faith. Shannon made a point to get to know everyone on a personal level. She enjoyed gift giving and knew how to make the most amazing gift basket. Shannon often joked that gift giving was her greatest joy in life. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter, auntie, teacher, and friend.

Shannon is survived by her husband of 22 years, Chris; son, Connor; mother, Judy; sisters, Sonia (Jon) Christian and Shelly (Rion) Latimore; mother-in-laws, Peggie (Rick) Klink, and Virginia (Jim) Stenzel; father-in-laws, Rick Klink, and Jim Stenzel; nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own, Kaitlin and Cole Christian, Leo Latimore and Elle Latimore, Charlotte and Nicholas Stenzel, Daxson and Dreyson Wilson, and Wilhelmina Passow; brother-in-laws, Justin (Danielle) Skrukrud, James (Anna) Stenzel; sister-in-laws, Nicole Stenzel, LeAnna (Devon) Wilson, and Brittany Stenzel; and her beloved cats, Dorito and Christmas.

Shannon is preceded in death by her father, John Becker; grandparents, Phillip and Rose Becker, and Myrtle and Ken Fuhr.

Funeral services wereheld 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, with Rev. Dr. Stephen Robertson. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends were invited to a visitation from 4- 7 p.m. Monday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and for one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday morning. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
