Shirley Ann Bachman, aged 86, of Hastings, MN, passed away on June 14, 2024. She was born in Hastings on August 22, 1937, to Jerome and Leola (Bihner) Bachman Hartery. Shirley was baptized at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1955.

Throughout her career, Shirley dedicated herself to Honeywell, where she worked until her retirement at the age of 57 upon reaching the “rule of 90.” During her time at Honeywell, she not only excelled in her professional role but also coached the Honeywell women’s softball team. After retiring, she continued to work at the Regis Hair Salon home office and the Minneapolis airport, while also caring for her mother until her passing.

A strong and resilient individual, Shirley was raised by her grandparents from the age of 10. After her grandmother’s passing, when she was 14, Shirley took care of her grandfather for 3 ½ years until his peaceful passing. She embarked on her career at Honeywell just a month before his death, ensuring her self-sufficiency.

Shirley lived life on her terms, enjoying travel, golf, hunting, fishing, and competitive card games. Her winter retreats in Arizona for over 16 years provided her with cherished memories before she sold her mobile home in 2019. She never married and said she was happy with her life.

Among her passions, Shirley cherished time spent with her nieces and nephews, actively participating in their milestones and capturing family moments through her photography. Additionally, she lovingly raised Joe McNamara following the tragic loss of his parents, embodying her caring nature.

Shirley is survived by her nieces, Laurie Bachman (John Bonified), Lynne Violett (Jeff Iverson); nephews, John (Tracy) Bachman, Tony (Lisa) Bachman; several great-nieces and great-nephews; four great-great-nieces, and a great-great-nephew. She is also survived by her sister Rosie Ritterbusch, whom she discovered at 80 years old through ancestry.com.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Christine and Charles Bihner; her mother, Leola Hartery; stepfather, Jim Hartery; her father, Jerome Bachman; stepmother, Helen Bachman; brother, Gerald Bachman, and sister-in-law Earleen Bachman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W, Hastings, MN 55033, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Pius Catholic Cemetery in Cannon Falls, MN.
