Urban 'Butch' Neisen

Urban “Butch” Neisen, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Hastings, MN on June 25, 2024. Urban was born at the home farm in Mahnomen, MN on July 22, 1938 to Peter and Rose Neisen.

He attended St. Michael Catholic School and Mahnomen Public School where Rita was a classmate, both graduating in 1956. He enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base and Camp Pendleton as a corpsman assigned to the Marines. After leaving the service he worked for his brother Edwin in the State Bank of Cold Spring.

In 1964 the family moved to Vermillion, MN where Urban worked at the local bank. In 1974 he purchased the Ormsby State Bank and Ormsby Insurance Agency. In 2021 the bank was sold, but Urban continued to work in the Neisen Crop and Hail Insurance Agency. Urban and Rita have been spending winters in Mesa, AZ for over 30 years.

Urban is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita; children, Joel (LuAnn), Jeffrey, Timothy, Daniel, Mary (Paul) Laxen and Brian; grandchildren, Michael (Saundra), Matthew (Nora), Benjamin, Joseph (Kelly) and Natalie Neisen (fiance Michael Stocke), Jacob (Mariya) and Nicholas (Jordan) Laxen and Lindsay (Jeremy) Syring; great grandchildren, Grace, Thomas, James, Hugo and Robin Neisen, Kaylee, Savannah, Carson and Sophia Laxen and Wyatt, Hayden and Bayleigh Syring; brother, Donald (Jean); sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Irene and Donna, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Elroy, Eletta, Edwin, Bernice, Peter, Jerome, Rosemary and James.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St W, Hastings, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the mass.

A private interment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
