Walter 'Wally' LaValla

Walter J. “Wally” LaValla, age 94 of Hastings, died peacefully at home with his wife Josie by his side on Monday evening, June 17, 2024.

Walter Junior, the son of Walter E. and Elsie (Zerk) LaValla, was born on November 6, 1929, in International Falls, Minnesota. Following his education, Wally was drafted into United States Army and was later granted an Honorable Discharge for his service. On August 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Josephine “Josie” Albrecht. Wally and Josie celebrated seventy-one years of marriage together and had many memorable times along the way. They were blessed with one son, Keith LeRoy on August 24, 1953, who lost his battle with cancer four years ago to the date that Wally passed away. Wally was a longtime employee at Hudson Mfg. in Hastings, and retired as a Supervisor. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved to fish and hunt with his son, Keith. He also enjoyed bowling, and was a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings where he served as an Usher and Sacristan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack LaValla, Gordon “Ray” LaValla, and Derwood “Woody” LaValla; and by his son, Keith “LaLa” LaValla.

Wally is survived by his loving wife, Josie; sister-in-law, Mary LaValla; and by many nieces, nephews, dear friends, Vince, Dave, Deke, Marjean, Jack, Shelby, Marie, and Mary Ellen; and other relatives.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 3 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Michael Tix and Deacon Jack LaValla officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 1:30 -3 p.m., and to a reception following the burial, all at church on Monday afternoon.
